Showell Add-in for PowerPoint

Showell for PowerPoint is an add-in that lets you browse PowerPoint files from your Showell workspace directly inside PowerPoint.

Showell and PowerPoint

With the add-in, you can select individual slides or insert all slides from a Showell PowerPoint file into the deck you are editing. This helps you build customer-specific PowerPoint presentations faster while reusing approved, on-brand content from Showell.

Installation Guide

  1. Go to the AppSource link: Showell for PowerPoint
  2. Click "Get it now" and follow the Microsoft installation steps
  3. Once installed, you'll find the Showell button from the PowerPoint ribbon
    1. Note: The layout of the PowerPoint ribbon can vary depending on your version. If you do not see the Showell button immediately, check the PowerPoint ribbon for the “Add-ins” tab or the “More options” (three dots) menu

For information on the most recent updates to the Showell for PowerPoint, please refer to our Release Notes: Showell in Other Platforms.

Usage Guide

💡 For the best experience, start from the Showell App when you want your edited PowerPoint to sync back to Showell.

Step 1. Start from Showell

  1. Open Showell App

  2. Use "Edit as new" on a PowerPoint file in your Workspace, or go to your My Files and:

    1. Click "+ Add" > New PowerPoint, or
    2. Click the "3 dots" of an existing PowerPoint file and, under "Microsoft 365", choose:
      1. Open in App -> Open in PowerPoint for Desktop (installed on your device)
      2. Open in Browser -> Open in PowerPoint for Web
      3. Synchronize -> sync changes instantly
      4. Edit as new -> create a copy of the PowerPoint file for editing (original stays untouched)
  3. When you use Microsoft 365 editing from Showell for the first time, you’ll be asked to authorize the connection between Showell and Microsoft 365.
  4. Based on availability, you'll be presented with the option to open the file with PowerPoint for Web from your Browser, or in the PowerPoint desktop app

Step 2. Edit in PowerPoint

  1. In PowerPoint, click the Showell button

    1. Sign in to Showell is required on first use

      1. Changes you have made in PowerPoint are automatically saved to your Microsoft 365 account
      2. When you've started the process from within Showell (Started from Step 1), the file belongs to your Showell files, and therefore the changes will be synced back to Showell automatically
    2. Back in Showell, You'll see a confirmation window. When you are done with editing your PowerPoint -> Click "Done"

Note: If you have opened PowerPoint directly (Skipped step 1, started from Step 2), you can still insert slides from Showell into your deck. However, the presentation is not automatically synced back to Showell.

    • You may see this message: “This presentation isn’t in your Showell files. Changes won’t be synced. Switch workspace or open the file from Showell to enable sync.”

    • You can still save the PowerPoint file locally. To store it in Showell afterwards, upload it manually to My Files, or ask an Admin to upload it to the workspace.

    💡 FAQ

Which versions of PowerPoint are compatible with the Showell Add-In?

Showell for PowerPoint works with most modern PowerPoint setups:

    • PowerPoint on the web - from any browser

    • PowerPoint for Windows - PowerPoint 2016 or later

    • PowerPoint for Mac - PowerPoint 2016 or later

The add-in works with an active Showell account. If your organization manages Office add-ins centrally, your Microsoft 365 admin may need to install or approve the add-in for you.

If your PowerPoint version does not support the add-in, try using PowerPoint on the web.

Which files can I use with Showell for PowerPoint?

Showell for PowerPoint shows PowerPoint files from your Showell workspace. This includes PPT and PPTX files, whether they were uploaded manually or synced from Microsoft 365 storage such as SharePoint or OneDrive.

Does Showell for PowerPoint replace the Microsoft 365 Office Editor?

No. Showell for PowerPoint is PowerPoint-only and does not replace the Microsoft 365 Office Editor.

The Microsoft 365 Office Editor is still used to create, edit and sync Word, Excel and PowerPoint files in Showell. Showell for PowerPoint adds extra functionality inside PowerPoint, so you can insert slides from Showell into the presentation you are editing.

Why do I need to authorize Microsoft 365?

When you use Microsoft 365 editing from Showell for the first time, you’ll be asked to authorize the connection between Showell and Microsoft 365.

This allows Showell to create, open, edit and sync Microsoft Office files through your Microsoft 365 account. The authorization is needed so your changes can be saved and synced correctly between Microsoft 365 and Showell.

If you are not allowed to authorize the connection yourself, contact your Microsoft 365 admin or IT team.

Can my Microsoft 365 admin deploy Showell for PowerPoint centrally?

Yes. In larger organizations, users may not be allowed to install Office add-ins themselves. In that case, a Microsoft 365 admin can deploy Showell for PowerPoint centrally to selected users, groups or the whole organization.

This helps IT manage who gets access, review the add-in and make it available to the right users.

Why do I only see "Open in browser" as an option to open PowerPoint?

Open in app is shown when the Microsoft PowerPoint desktop app option is available for that file and device. If you only see Open in browser, continue editing in PowerPoint for the web.

Why are my changes not syncing back to Showell?

Your PowerPoint presentation must be opened from Showell for automatic syncing to work. If you opened PowerPoint directly and then opened the Showell add-in, you can still insert slides from Showell, but the file is not connected to Showell for syncing.

You can still save the PowerPoint file locally. To store it in Showell afterwards, upload it manually to My Files, or ask an Admin to upload it to the workspace.
